Who is Electric Smile Band??

See this blog post from Channel V featuring Electric Smile Band's new clip, which suggests Children Collide singer/guitarist Johnny Mackay is a member of the band?!?

Rofl Harris!

Autoluminescent//Rowland S.

Can't wait to watch this at MIFF.  When I was younger I wrote a letter to Rowland and spelt his name wrong, omitting the "w".  I never forgave myself.  He still replied though.  I remember watching him at Ding Dong about 4 years ago, playing to about 20 people, just him and his white jaguar.  Unforgettable.

Autoluminescent screens July 30 at MIFF

Here is the great excerpt from Wenders Wings of Desire featuring "Crime and the City Solution"

SCOTT & CHARLENE'S WEDDING

Footscray Station by Scott & Charlene's Wedding from Craig Dermody on Vimeo.

Scott and Charlene's wedding a project begun by Craig Dermody (Spider Vomit, Divorced, Lindsday Lowhand).  Don't let the band name or clip fool you; there's nothing ironic about the songwriting here.  Its my favourite album for shitty monday mornings and something I really relate to.  (Maybe it's because Dermody hails from sadelaide as well).  I really like the production and musicianship, which isn't surprising given those involved: drummer Luke Horton (Love of Diagrams), bassist Jarrod Quarrel (St Helens, Lost Animal), drummer Dion Nania (Panel of Judges) and produced Jack Farley (every good recent album from Melbourne not produced by Mikey Young).  The album has touches of all the right thing: stooges, VU, the clean, even crazy horse in parts (sans neil young) - without sounding like any of them.  Anyone who has ever lived in a shitty sharehouse in melbourne in winter with no money will relate to the likes of footscray station, epping line, find a way and everyone can relate to the post weekend come down of born to lose, rejected & rational.  Definitely one of my favourite albums of the last year.

Here's a live set available for purchase at their bandcamp.  I'm pretty sure that the limited edition vinyl of 200 sold out but you can see them here, with personalised artwork by Dermody (who is also apparently a talented artist)

RUINS ALONE

Was glad to be able to catch experimental prog legend Ruins Alone in Adelaide on Thursday.  Tatsuya Yoshida started Ruins in 1986 and has been Ruins Alone since 2004 when his most recent bass player departed.  He played with a sampler and a chaos bad and put on a pretty amazing show.  Ranged from psych sounding free jazz to more proggy stuff. In a way it reminded me of Lightning Bolt, but a less punk version.
